Sons of the Sword: The true history of the Clan Gunn
by Michael J. Gunn
A
forthcoming title published by Highland Heritage Press.
This is a completely new and authoritative history of the Clan
Gunn and its country. The book, which consists of over 500 pages
with 130 colour and black and white illustrations, together with
9 maps, 40 genealogical charts and 18 appendices, contains an immense
amount of original material about the clan that has never before
been published in one volume. More than forty years of research
at most of the major archives and libraries in the UK have gone
into its production and the contents are fully referenced. Wherever
possible only primary resource materials have been consulted, including
many original manuscripts, charters, official records and family
documents. Many contributions have been made by clansfolk from around
the world.
This book dispels many myths and legends and uncovers much exciting
new information. Discover the true origins of the Clan and learn
of the real nature of the so-called feud between the Gunns and the
Keiths. Revealed here for the first time is the truth behind the
non-existent Crowner George Gunn and discovered is the true identity
of the Crowner known as Am Braisdeach Mor,. Explained for the first
time is the accurate history of the castles of Clyth and Halberry.
Read the true genealogy of the chiefs and their branch families
and learn of the sept names and how they came about. Revealed is
the quest to find the most ancient Scottish coat-of-arms for Gunn,
discovered in an ancient manuscript by the author. And, perhaps
most importantly of all, learn of the chiefship controversy that
has plagued the Clan Gunn since 1785 and how it was finally resolved.
Superbly illustrated with maps, battle plans, photographs, heraldry
and other pictures, many specially commissioned for this work.
