Digital
Imaging
We are able to produce digital images from most types of originals
including microforms, 35mm slides, lantern slides, glass negatives,
transparencies, prints, drawings, engravings, manuscripts and printed
works and other original documents up to A3 size with output to
CD-ROM, DVD and Kodak Ultima CD-R.
Most file types are catered for including Greyscale, RGB TIFF,
CMYK TIFF, CCITT TIFF (Greyscale or Bi-tonal), JPEG, GIF and PDF
formats. Images can be captured in file sizes up to 50MB and if
required re-sized and translated to other file formats of your choice.
In addition to standard digitising we can also, if required, initiate
image enhancement techniques to restore faint or faded images, de-skew,
right-orientate, mirror or invert images. Using these techniques
we have "restored" previously unreadable texts.
We can offer advice and services in the following key areas:
- Scanning and Digital Photography
- Database Development
- System Procurement and Consultancy
Scanning and Digital Photography
We have built up considerable expertise in these techniques during
the last ten years and can offer an unrivalled service specially
tailored to the needs of archives, libraries and museums.
Colour balance is calibrated using ICC Profiles and we can offer
all usual post-production techniques including cropping, rotating,
re-touching, compression, digital watermarking.
Database Development
The conversion of image collections, large or small, to digital
format provides an excellent opportunity for descriptive cataloging
and the construction of searchable databases. Academic Microforms
are able to provide advice and assistance in this area including
the use of CALM, MIRO, and other database systems.
System Procurement and Consultancy
We do not supply digital equipment but can advise on the best type
of equipment, software and systems for specific applications. Our
advice is strictly impartial and we can provide guidance on such
issues as File size and format, Metadata, Digital watermarking,
Digital storage and Data migration.
