The Gunns

Thomas Sinclair (1843-1909) was the second son of George Dunbar
Sinclair and a descendant of David Sinclair of Broynach who died
in 1714. Thomas Sinclair was a writer on miscellaneous genealogical
and historical subjects. In 1890 he published at Wick in Caithness
his well-known book The Gunns. During the succceeding years he published
a series of articles in the Northern Ensign known as The Supplements
to the History of Clan Gunn. There were 36 Instalments published
between 1902 and 1903. He was the author of two other books of Caithness
interest, Caithness Events (Wick, 1899) and Wick and Watten Notables
(Wick 1903) but his main claim to fame rests with his 1890 work
The Gunns. This rare book contains much genealogical and historical
information on the Clan Gunn and includes printed versions of extracts
the historical manuscripts compiled by Aeneas Gunn, Captain Alexander
Gunn of Braehour and Dr Patrick Brodie Henderson.
